1. Could you please tell me a little about yourself?
This is a warm-up question, a chance to ease into the more formal part of the interview. Keep your answer short. Mention a little about your education, what you like to do outside of work, what you’re passionate about and why you’re looking for a new role.

For this question, if you’re new to the sector, it’s important to research and understand what the role requirements are. Support Workers perform many different tasks and you must know what they are and why they’re important to providing care. If you’ve been in the sector for a while, taking some time to think about how you would answer this question will help you to sound confident and improve your chances of landing the job!
3. Could you describe a recent experience at work that was challenging? How did you overcome it?
Most employers love to ask this question and it’s particularly important in Support Work. Read the job description thoroughly as you can often pick up hints to help select a specific experience. Don’t be afraid to use examples from other roles in different sectors too; it all counts towards showing what you can do.
4. What would you say are your main strengths and areas for improvement?
Preparing for this question will pay dividends! Your potential new employer is asking how self-aware you are and assessing how you will be an asset to the team. It’s ok to have areas for improvement, so be honest, but don’t be shy about highlighting what your strengths are! Here are a few ideas; can work as part of a team and independently, stay positive even when things are challenging, like solving problems.
On the flip-side, if you have limited or no experience underline that you’ve worked in a smaller/larger team or very specific environments (such as a group home only) these are areas for growth. How you answer this question will show that you can identify where you can evolve as an employee and where you thrive!
