A happy and healthy workforce serves as the bedrock of any successful company. Edmen, an innovative organisation, recognises the paramount importance of employee well-being and has recently launched its Fuel, Flex, and Flourish campaign to foster a flourishing work environment.
In this blog post, we will delve into the three primary initiatives: Healthy Eating, Healthy Body, and Healthy Mind.
Healthy Eating: Fuelling Productivity from Within
Edmen's commitment to employee well-being commences in the kitchen with a simple yet profound change – the introduction of a fruit bowl stocked with fresh fruit for staff to enjoy at their convenience, a pivotal part of the Fuel component of the campaign. The positive impact of this initiative has been remarkable, resulting in a noticeable increase in fruit consumption among employees.
GM Marlyn Soulakelles, the visionary behind the Fuel, Flex, and Flourish campaign, shares her perspective,
"My aim was to uncover subtle methods for encouraging positive changes and cultivating better habits—ones that are more likely to endure and are easy and accessible for everyone to embrace. These are small steps that everyone can readily adopt, and it's something I've personally embraced wholeheartedly as well; after all, leaders should set the example."
According to the Heart Foundation, fewer than 10% of Australians reach the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables. Making fruit easily available for employees is a step towards increasing their intake and reducing health risks such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer.
Healthy Body: Embracing Activity in the Workplace
To counteract the sedentary nature of office work, Edmen has introduced a "Desk Stretching" initiative as part of the Flex component of the campaign. Employees receive regular reminders in their calendars to stretch at their desks throughout the day. Additionally, the office environment has been enriched by displaying stretching videos on office TVs, serving as visual prompts for the team to engage in quick, rejuvenating exercises.
Sitting at desks all day can put significant strain on our muscles and joints, leading to discomfort. Simple stretching can enhance flexibility, alleviate soreness, and serve as an effective method for relieving tension.
Now that the team has learned these simple stretches and experienced their benefits, you'll find that they spontaneously incorporate them into their day whenever they begin to feel a little tight.
Healthy Mind: Nurturing Mental Well-being through Nature
As part of the Flourish component of the campaign, Edmen has introduced "walk and talk" meetings and encourages holding meetings outdoors. This initiative aims to provide a refreshing change of scenery, promoting relaxation. Research from Stanford even suggests a link between increased creative thinking and walking.
Of course, walk and talk meetings may not always be suitable; some meetings require a desk and access to screens and laptops. However, it's about encouraging employees to seize opportunities to walk and talk when possible, reaping the benefits and feeling confident that the company supports a modern, flexible approach to work that doesn't tether employees to their desks.
Edmen's Fuel, Flex, and Flourish campaign, spearheaded by GM Marlyn Soulakelles, embodies the organisation's unwavering commitment to its most valuable asset – its people. The team has already wholeheartedly embraced these initiatives, which are becoming ingrained within the organisation, and we've even received suggestions for additional initiatives, demonstrating the enthusiasm and positive impact of this transformative campaign.
